A few terms which are key to the study but may be unfamiliar.
carcinoma
A cancer that forms in epithelial tissues
cytochrome c
soluble electron-carrier protein; released to cytosol from mitochondria in apoptosis
cytokine
a broad category of proteins involved in cell signalling, including chemokines, interferons (IFNs), interleukins. Cannot enter a cell’s cytoplasm, thus they act by binding with specific receptors on the outside of the cell. An example in this report is IFNs binding to IFNAR1 and 2 receptors, which activate the JAK-STAT cascade.

paracrine
a substance released from a cell that acts upon other cells in the vicinity
sumoylation
SUMO-ylation, small ubiquitin-like modifier
